Our teaching day has still been the same as last week. We get there in the morning and the second group of kids joint the am kids. They start by doing their morning math problems. Once they go over the answers they do math and then get a recess break. Then come back and continue on math or do spelling or whatever the teacher needs them to do. On Tuesdays they have library, and Wednesdays they have their specialty class which is music. Then it is lunch time and recess. Once they come in the teacher reads them a book out loud to the class.
I have really enjoyed learning from these kids and hearing how they come up with different ways to do things and their different ideas of thinking. I think as a teacher we are constantly learning from the children. They are so good at thinking of new ways and interpretations.
On tuesday our teacher was gone to a conference so she had us teach the math lesson. It was on multiples and factors. We have been learning about this but as I taught the lesson and we were doing worksheets they seemed to be a little confused as which one was which. We then wrote a definition for each on the board, but if i were to do it over again I would have discussed it as a class in the very beginning. And that might help them distinguish the two and have an easier time doing the worksheet.
To help my students I will guide them so they can figure out the solution on their own. I can help them and give them clues, but they will learn better and more thoroughly if they are the ones finding their own answers.
It sounds like you guys are having a lot of fun in your class. Learning the different ways that students learn is crazy! I can't believe how many different needs each student has... It is so hard to work to all of their strengths. Good luck Kamrie!
ReplyDeleteHey Kamrie! I am glad to hear you are doing well!!! :) I agree that we learn so much from our students!!! I saw a quote on the wall today at the school I am at and it said, "Teaching means learning twice." As teachers we learn twice as much! We learn when we prepare to teach, and we learn from the students when we present it to them! :)
