Field: Week One
1. Describe your teaching day:
Our first few days have been a lot of observing and watching how our teacher works with our students. We have been going in the morning during math and specialties. Math is really interesting to watch and see how the students are with the new material. They are doing amazing with long division which is what they are working on right now. We also have been there for specialties and of course recess. Its been fun to see how the students act in their art class and the dynamics of their personalities while at recess.
2. Describe your favorite part of the day:
My favorite part is when the students raise their hands and ask for Mrs. Pehrson to help them! It really means so much to see that a student is willing and wanting to ask for my help. I feel like I am doing what I am there to do. It is really fun to help them with a math problem and when they just get that look in their eye when it clicks is so fun to experience.
3. What went well, what didnt work, what did you change:
I feel like we are learning from the greatest teacher! She is a wonderful manager, mom, doctor, and all those little roles that we play. I feel like our week went very very well! We had so much fun seeing her and the kids interact with each other. We have started this week with much more interaction in the lesson and helping the students succeed. I also learned that I don't really loved to grade papers, we have helped her out with that and sometimes it just gets old.
4. To help your students this week you will:
I am excited to get a chance to teach my lesson this week and one way I am going to help my students is giving them all of my attention while I am teaching. Our teacher already has a wonderful management method that I am excited to try and use while I am teaching. It is going to be a very fun and exciting full week.
Isn't it so fun to have the students call you by name!? I'm loving being Miss Stookey. We are approaching long division and I'm a little nervous... A lot of our kids had trouble with double digit multiplication so I hope they can catch on. Grading papers is kind of dull work but hopefully we can get good classroom aid's to help us. Good luck with your lesson!
