The Fox Trot is Ending
Explain the most challenging part during your field experience.
The the most challenging part is there is not enough hours in the day to get everything in I hoped and dreamed to do. I have learned lesson plans need to be well organized and prepared efficiently. The next biggest challenge is classroom management. I would like to become a master, like Master Shifu, but in my classroom management skills. My partner and I witnessed how fast the cookie crumbles when a substitute teacher came. The classroom rules went out the door.
Explain your greatest success during field experience.
I feel my greatest success is helping the students during math time. I was able to help a large quantity of students with their questions. My field partner and I are proud of our two assigned tutor students. To prepare these students for their spelling tests we used a variety of methods. For example, we had them write them out, match a picture to the word, write the word in a pan of sugar, and we used an iPad app.We were so proud of them when this past Friday, they again received high scores on their spelling test. They were so excited!
What recommendations would you make to others based on your field experience?
I would recommend taking classroom management and math workshops. Any additional insight is always helpful. I would also recommend to make your greatest weakness your greatest strengths. I have many weakness to improve on. I am sure the classes we will be taking in the future will help with those. I would also say have a sense of humor and enjoy your students company. It is amazing how fast their hearts will open up to you with kindness.

I loved how you commented on how the rules went out the door when a sub came into the room. Even though we haven't been able to see that because our teacher had been there everyday, we have talked to teachers about it during lunch often. I also really liked what you said about making your greatest weakness your greatest strength! That would really help me in my teaching!
ReplyDeleteYou are not the only ones who saw the results of a substitute teacher. The first time we had a sub, things well not fell apart but let's just say that it wasn't the same as when the teacher was there. The second day we had a sub, Brooke and I were prepared and I am proud to say that things were much better, almost the same as when the teacher was there. But I guess you have to take it one day at a time. I also will be anxious to reacquaint myself with math and language skills and how to apply them to the core. Amy, I miss you and will be glad to see you again. Good luck with your last few days. I know you will be great.
ReplyDeleteWe were there for a substitute teacher also, the kids were a little more wound up but they did pretty well. I actually taught for the first time when there was a sub. It was a math lesson but it went really well, I was actually way impressed how well they behaved. I love the idea of classroom management workshops, I think the more tools you have to use the better off. Students are so different it is good to have different techniques. I love math, but it is still intimidating to try and teach I am hoping that our classes help with that.
