Describe your teaching day.
Today Lauren and I taught our first lesson. Our advisor came to watch us, so we were both a little nervous. It went really well and the kids were great! We taught our lesson on petroglyphs and we put together another digital story that had the students input in. The students loved it and it was a big success. We did an art activity with the students and they were able to make their own petroglyph symbols.
I am really enjoying being in the classroom. It has been a good experience so far. I look forward to going to school each day. I was a little hesitant to be in the 4th grade classroom, but I have changed my mind, and I would like to someday teach 4th grade :)
Describe your favorite part of the day.
Today was a really fun day, because we got to teach and it seemed like the students really enjoyed it. The digital story really got the students engaged and they thought it was awesome that their voices were a part of the story. They all were going to go home and look it up on YouTube. The art activity we did today was also really enjoyable. It was interesting to see what petroglyph symbols the kids came up with to paint on the piece of butcher paper.
What went well, what didn't work and what did you change?
Overall, we had a pretty good day. The class that we teach is really chatty, so keeping them on task and having good classroom management is something we really have to work on. I feel like the digital story really got them engaged and they wanted to focus and learn more. I would definitely put together another digital story for this class.
To help your students you would...
To help my students, I would try and find attention getters and the beginning of each lesson. Some of the students are really hard to keep on task. Classroom management skills is something I would teach to this class like the, "Class Class Class" thing we learned. Another thing that I feel like would help this class is making sure clear directions are given. The students really need that extra push to do what is asked of them and to stay on task.
