I cannot believe that we just finished our second week of field!! Time sure is flying by. I am already dreading my last day with my students. I have gained a great love for them and I am grateful for the opportunity that I have to work with them and my cooperating teacher. I am constantly learning things each day that I would like to implement in my future classroom. My teacher is very good at managing her class, is very patient, and is a great teacher. The students know when it is time to listen and they have a great respect for her.
When we are with our students they have language arts, math, specialties, recess, and computers. Twice a week our students have music. On this day the kids can choose to either go to band, orchestra, or choir. I have had the chance to go to choir and band with the students and I loved it!! Music is one of my favorite parts of the day with the kids.I also just love any of the time that I have to interact and help the kids. This week I taught my first lesson. I did a reader's theater with one of stories from their language arts books and did a vocabulary graffiti activity. I really enjoyed this experience and I found out I have a few actors and actresses in my class. I think that they enjoyed the reader's theater. Something that I want to learn how to do better is classroom management. I have learned that classroom management is one of the hardest parts about teaching and it just takes time and experience. I am lucky to have a cooperating teacher who is very good at it that I can learn from.
This week I will try and be more aware of ways that I can help my students and the teacher. Now that I know my students I feel that I will better be able to know how I can help them. This week I am also going to try to get to know more of my students names. I have learned a lot of them and have tried to use them but I still have a lot to learn. What will probably end up happening is I will finally learn them all and it will be time to go, but I am still going to try.
I have enjoyed my field experience and I love hearing about everyone's experiences. Hope everyone has a great week!! :)
Nikki, I wonderful to hear that you are having a wonderful time during your field experience. As I read your comment, "My teacher is very good at managing her class, is very patient, and is a great teacher. The students know when it is time to listen and they have a great respect for her." this reminded me of how blown away our cooperating teacher is with her students and how well her management strategies really do work. Watching our cooperating teacher really does provide an aspect to teaching that we can all really benefit in observing.
ReplyDeleteNikki! I couldn't agree more! Classroom management is EVERYTHING!!!! Makaila and I subbed for our cooperating teaching on Thursday and Friday while she was at a conference, and holy cow....WE WERE EXHAUSTED!!!! Hahaha I think it will be better when it's our OWN class and the students only have ONE adult to follow and listen to! :) I have loved being able to watch my cooperating teacher's management strategies! She is SO organized and the students are trained so well! I can't wait to get to that level someday! :)
ReplyDeleteI did a reader's theater as well! My supervisor actually praised reader's theaters and said they are such a great teaching tool, so good job! :) I thought it was a good way to see their reading skills and it was interactive as well. Management is a worry for all of us I think...something we can all definitely learn from our cooperating teachers!
ReplyDeleteNikki, I also taught my first lesson this week and I too did a graffiti activity! I couldn't agree more, classroom management is KEY! I am also so grateful for my cooperating teacher and feel that I am learning so much from her and will definitely be using some of her great classroom management techniques in the future! - Wishing you a wonderful upcoming week! (:
