1. Describe your teaching day.
Brianna and I have been doing our lessons this week. We have found it to be a lot better in terms of how well our lessons have been going than I ever would have expected. When our observer came and watched our lesson we were terrified but then when the timing was perfect and everything went so well we were happy to hear from the observer that there was nothing that he could think of that we could have done to make it any better! Fantastic right? For our unit plan we did the Revolutionary War, or should I say we more or less are covering the American Revolution which somewhat stretches across a few more years than the war did. Everything is going splendid.
2. Describe your favorite part of the day.
My favorite part of the day is when we first get there around 10:40 and we start off by reading with the students individually, which helps them to keep moving forward with there reading especially when we encourage them with positive feedback. Its interesting to see so many different kinds of readers that they are, some of them read faster than I do but others struggle significantly.
3. What went well, what didn't work and what did you change?
When our observer came I was so worried about the students behavior for really that is kind of a big determining factor on if a lesson goes well or not. But surprisingly they were heavenly! I also thought that my nerves would get the better of me as they have in the past when I get up in front of a group of people but for some reason when its children I don't get nervous as I do in front of my peers. One more thing that we were concerned about was the timing, we thought that we were planning to much for one lesson when our observer came but again surprisingly when we said the very last thing we wanted to say the bell rang, that was a relieving moment.
4. To help your students you would...
I feel that they best way that I could help would be to have a variety of book for the students to read in terms of subjects of the books and also the reading level for I noticed that there were some students that were reading books for their grade level but was not fitting for their reading level. Sadly as you could imagine these students struggle with their individual reading time we did with them each morning.
