- Describe your teaching day. November 6, 2013. The first day was fine.We had about 20 minutes to talk to the teacher alone while the students were at P.E.. We got the low down about lessons she wants us to cover and what she requires. She is letting us do several of our lesson plans and then she gave us a few of her lesson plans for us to put our spin on. Other than that, we helped grade papers. During lunch time, we had some of the 5th grade teachers come into our room for lunch. One of those teachers was a fellow UVU student, who is an intern this year. It was fun to visit with them.
- Describe your favorite part of the day. My favorite part of the day is art time. This is held in the art room and conducted by the art specialist. The kids are working on totem poles. This was a great time to finally go around to the tables and start to learn the names of the students.
- What went well, what didn't work and what did you change? I think everything went well. Our teacher is very organized and the students are very well behaved.
- To help your students you would... Today, November 7, I had the opportunity to help 4 students with math. We used small white boards and did PEMDAS (order of operations) together. I called my students the math ninjas. We did the problems together. I was glad I was able to clear up some confusion on what steps they need to take to get the right answer.

It sounds like things are going great for you. It made me smile to think of you calling your students the math ninjas. I'm sure they loved that comment. We also graded peppers. I know our teacher was pretty discouraged when she saw the results of the math tests. I was impressed when she went over the test with the students to try and help them understand what they didn't understand. Amy, I'm so happy things are going well for you.
ReplyDeleteAmy, one of my very favorite parts was art as well. It is such a fun time where students show their creativity skills and enjoy learning new things. I bet the students are loving you and all your fun ideas! Can't wait to hear more from your field experience.
